Nominations for The Piolets d'Or 2013

The Technical Committee of the Piolets d’Or pronounces 2012 as an exceptional year for international Alpinism. 

Many first ascents have been achieved with a purist alpine style.

This proves how much potential there is for the future of modern alpinism.

All of the Nominees have overcome impressive challenges, demonstrating the true meaning of adventure.

 

The Piolets d'Or 2013 nominations are:

1. Tatsuya Aoki, Yasuhiro Hanatani and Hiroyoshi Manome (Japan): Kyashar (6,770m), Nepal.

2. Mick Fowler and Paul Ramsden (UK): Shiva (6,142m), India.

3. Dmitry Golovchenko, Alexander Lange and Sergey Nilov (Russia): Muztagh Tower (7,284), Pakistan.

4. Kyle Dempster, Hayden Kennedy, and Josh Wharton (USA): Baintha Brakk (a.k.a The Ogre, 7,285m).

5. Sébastien Bohin, Didier Jourdain, Sébastien Moatti and Sébastien Ratel (France): Kamet (7,756m), India.

6. Sandy Allan and Rick Allen (UK), Cathy O'Dowd (South Africa), Lhakpa Rangdu Sherpa, Lhakpa Zarok Sherpa and Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa (Nepal): Nanga Parbat (8,125m), Western Himalaya, Pakistan

The Piolets d'Or 2013 Award Ceremony takes place in Chamonix and Courmayeur from the 3 to the 6 of April.

More than just the recognition of a performance, the Piolets d'Or celebrates passion, spirit and values. The Piolets d'Or event is therefore a celebration of an ethical alpinism, rich in emotion.
