Curling Tournament 2013 Cancelled

The Club des Sports of Chamonix has cancelled the 2013 International Curling Tournament of Chamonix, scheduled for October 11 - 13.

Due to unexpected events and after a long deliberation, the Club's Committee has decided to cancel the 42nd edition of the International Curling Tournament of Chamonix. The inability to develop and provide a worthy tournament in optimum conditions, has influenced the decision.

The Club des Sports de Chamonix Mont-Blanc apologizes to all the partner clubs and associations for any inconvenience their decision has caused.

Further reasons have not been disclosed.

No doubt, in the forty-one years since the Tournament began, the event has achieved a place of significance in region and not only. 28 teams from all over Europe including the French national team faced each other on ice in 2012, for the curling championship title.

The Sport of Curling

In 1924, Chamonix hosted the First Olympic Winter Games where the first Curling event was held and the Chamonix Curling Club was created.

Today, Curling is a popular game, played all over the world, with curling clubs established in Canada, America, Switzerland, Sweden, and many other European countries as well as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, China and Korea.

It is still possible to practice Curling at the Richard Bozon Ice Rink in Chamonix. Spectators are welcome.
