23 April 2014, two video cameras were placed on the Maison du Patrimoine (Moulins stree, Chamonix). They are in service for the security of all the inhabitants of Chamonix.
These two cameras are part of a larger project to help municipalities and businesses to deal with security problems. In the weeks to come, an additional dozen video cameras will be installed in Chamonix center. If the residents have a security problem, the police can respond to their questions by simply accessing the camera's recorded videos.
The central areas of Chamonix, Place Mont Blanc - Place Michel Croz - Place de l'Horloge, are the first to benefit from this video protection system, which is to be installed in several areas. The cameras function 24/7, without supervision. The video files are saved for the use of the police upon written request. Only three people, nominated by the local administration, have permission to access the video files.
The on-going work of implementing the cameras will be finished by the beginning or the end of this summer (2014).
