Plan Joran Upgrade for 2015

A brand new gondola, part of a 447 million euro investment project, is to be installed in place of the old Lognan ski lift at Grands Montets in Argentiere. Work started on the new cable car system on the 28th of May 2014 and should finish by the beginning of 2015 winter season.

The Compagnie du Mont Blanc released more info about the works being undertaken at Grands Montets. The project is part of a long term development investment, that features three new gondolas, two chairlifts and two beginner areas, to be finished in 6 years time.

The project comprises the Plan Joran chair lift replacement by a gondola system,a replacement for the Lognan cable-car including a reconstruction of Lognan mid-station (the main Grands Montets lift station). By the end of the works, the cabins will have a full capacity of 10 persons/cabin, with a total of over 3000 persons/hour and will resemble the ones at Brevent Plan Praz. Thre will be 84 cabins carrying up to 10 people each with an estimated trip time of 6min 52s at a speed of 6 metres per second.

The bottom of the old Lognan chair lift (1242 metres) will be used as departure point, a total of 896 metres of ascension, taking the passengers up to 2138 metres

A chic set of plans for new Plan Joran base station has been released to the press. It is possible, to build a link from the main cable car lift station to the new gondola, yet this was not confirmed by the Compagnie du Mont Blanc.

The excavations for the project have been going on and the lift is meant to open by the beginning of 2015 winter season.
