Huge snow falls have been predicted to fall this week, looking likely to start tomorrow, Thursday, 29th Jan and to continue until Sunday, 1st February 2015
The Office de Haute Montagne, have today released a warning to all skiers, snowboarders or anyone expecting to spend time on the mountain.
The local organisation for mountain safety and hazard prevention, La Chamoniarde, reminds all winter sport enthusiasts (skier, snowboarders, snowshoers, ski tourers..) to show the greatest caution while playing in the outdoors.
As a matter of fact, the expected snowfalls wil accumulate on top of a very unstable snow cover. As a result, all mountain sides and aspects will show an increasing hazard of self-released slides throughout the end of the week.
We strongly recommend to strictly follow the safety instructions given by local mountain safety and rescue organisations, and to select your day outing appropriately.
Avalanche risks will be high! The prefecture, emergency services, police, highways agency and communications networks are all on high alert and will be watching the forecast for the next few days very closely.
