Haute Savoie: landslides & avalanches danger!

Monday, the 4th May 2015. Because of heavy rain and the risk of flooding, 4 departments from the Rhône-Alpes were declared on an "orange" weather alert from Météo France last weekend. Around a months worth of rain fell in around 24 hours, causing landslides in and around the Chamonix Valley.

Many roads had been washed away over the weekend.

Big damage reported for those who live in Chamonix. The road Gorges de l'Arly has been badly affected in the result of a rock fall on Saturday night. The train to Montenvers and the walking trails around it are also closed to the public.

If you want to escape from danger, the mountains are not the best solution! An avalanche occured on the glacier du Taconnaz this weekend as well.

The orange weather alert in place over the weekend has been lifted, but the rain will continue overnight. We strongly recommend you to check the weather forecast before you pack.
