Chamonix - candidate for the 2023 World Ski Championships

6 October 2015. Chamonix is one of the 3 lucky resorts chosen by FFS to compete for the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships.

According to the declaration of the president of the French Ski Federation (FFS), Michel Vion, France will bid to host the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships.

The FFS is yet to decide on a bid venue for the event. In this way, 3 resorts have been proposed. “We will return to the three brands, the three locations that can host such an event, Chamonix, Val d’Isere and Courchevel-Méribel.” The French resort that best corresponds and satisfy all the requirements will be decided in 2016.

However, Austria has already made it choice and will be participating with Saalbach, which is one of Austria's premier ski resorts. The election of the host city will be set by FIS and will take place in 2018.

Since the first edition of World Ski Championships in 1931, France has hosted the International Ski Federation (FIS) showpiece on four occasions - Chamonix in 1937 and 1962, Grenoble in 1968 and Val d'Isere in 2009. The next event is to be set up in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 2017, and then in Are, Sweden in 2019. The 2021 Worlds will take place in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, which was the only bidder in May.
