On Saturday evening, 16 Jan 2016, at the Richard Bozon ice rink in Chamonix, Les Chamois beat the Red Devils from Briançon 4-3.
The Chamois strike again! Two victories in two consecutive home matches for the Chamonix Hockey Club. The previous weekend Lyon's hockey team fell to Les Chamois, next up Briançon's Diables Rouges fell to a resurgent Chamonix.
The Chamonix players were impatiently awaited by the crowd, and immediately they offered a display of their skills, coming close several times without managing to net the puck. Against the run of play, it was Briançon that scored first. It did not take too long for the Chamois to avenge that score with Matt Bissonnette netting three minutes later. Thirty seconds later, Jordan Mugnier and Ilpo Salmivirta set up Patxi Biscard, to score the second goal for Chamonix. The first period ended 2-1 to Chamonix.
During the second period, Matt Bissonnette and Randy Cameron scored two more goals for the Chamois and extended their lead up to four goals. The second period ended 4-1 and it looked like Les Chamonix might deliver a thrashing by the end of the third.
That was not to be, at the beginning of the third, Briançon hit the ice with renewed purpose. Calling on their reserves to strike back with two late goals. Entering the final minutes the tension rose as Briançon fought hard for an equalizer but Stephane Gros's defence formation held out to secure a well deserved win, having dominated two of the three periods. Final score: 4-3.
The Chamois are now 12th in the Magnus League.
The Magnus League continues! Next match is to take place at Pôle Sud, against Grenoble, followed on 23 Jan 2016, with a home derby against Hockey Club de Morzine-Avoriaz-Les Gets.
