Thursday 2 June 2016, Aiguille du Midi celebrates its 60 years of operation and the opening of a new tourist attraction "The Tube", financed by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, which will allow you to make a complete tour of the pinnacle.
Work on the project, a landmark in the renovation program of the site, began in April 2011 and was completed this spring 2016.
Already nicknamed the "Pipe" because it looks like a pipeline, this exceptional structure is anchored to the rock and allows people to stay safely inside the pipe, and walk 360° all around the pinnacle, in complete safety, even though there may be thousands of feet of empty space below them.
The construction has :
- total weight of 87 tons;
- 5 windows to admire the Mont Blanc;
- total lenght 35 meters.
A total of 400 tons of concrete was used to anchor the Tube to the rock.
Situated in the Mont-Blanc massif, at 3,842 meters above sea level and accessible by cable car from the Chamonix valley, the Aiguille du Midi, which hosts a restaurant and a cafe-bar, welcomes an average of 500,000 tourists, every year.
Come on Thursday 2 June to celebrate with your family and friends the opening of the Tube and 60 years of the Aiguille du Midi site!
An opening attraction not to be missed!
