The reason for the closure between Chamonix and Châtelard-Frontière (Swiss border) is that a new signalling system (MZ) is being implemented.

When the new signalling system will operate, a double train service will run on this route. Two trains per hour and per direction will run on the central part of the Mont Blanc Express railway route.

The Mont-Blanc Express is a scenic mountain train which runs from the French station of St Gervais/Le Fayet, beginning with a steep climb up to the Chamonix valley, passing through Chamonix and Argentiere, then under the Col des Montets, through the Vallorcine Valley, before descending into the Rhone Valley, where it terminates at Martigny, Switzerland.

If you're staying in the Chamonix valley, a journey on the Mont Blanc Express, is free with a Carte d'Hote. The Carte d'Hôte/Guest Card is given to you free of charge by your accommodation provider on your arrival. Don't hesitate to ask for it!

This card gives free access to the Chamonix Valley public transport network, only between Servoz and Vallorcine.
