Last update on Tuesday 21 March 2017. A light earthquake shook the Chamonix valley on Monday 20 March 2017, at about 10:09pm.
According to Le Dauphine the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter Scale and its epicenter was located at 20 km from Chamonix Mont-Blanc and 24 kilometers from Cluses at a depth of 10000m.
In the early hours of Monday, 20 March 2017, at about 1:30am, a light earthquake shook the Chamonix valley.
According to the Switzerland Seismic Newtork the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter Scale and its epicenter was located at 11 km north of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, between Vallorcine and the Swiss border at a depth of 3500m.
According to the Radio Mont Blanc, the epicenter of the earthquake was located more precisely to the west of Vallorcine, towards the Buet and the valley of Tré les Eaux.
From the quake, there have been no recorded incidents of damage to people or property.
This earthquake was clearly felt near the epicenter in Vallorcine, in Chamonix valley but also and in some distance from it in Megève, Fayet, Sallanches, Plateau d'Assy and even Magland.
The last similar earthquake took place on 2 October 2016 with a magnitude of 3.4.
