Hungarian Mountaineer in fatal fall Couloir du Goûter

Tuesday 5th September 2017, a Hungarian mountaineer (29) suffered a fatal fall on the Couloir du Goûter, while descending the Mont Blanc.

According to Le Figaro, the accident occurred Tuesday, in the early morning. The Hungarian Mountaineer suffered a fatal fall of 300 to 400 meters on the Couloir du Goûter, while descending the Mont Blanc, on the normal route.

The Chamonix PGHM was alerted by a witness and intervened rapidly, at 8:30am, in the Couloir du Goûter, but sadly the rescue team could not do anything, the mountaineer died on the spot.

According to the preliminary investigations led by the Chamonix PGHM, the victim was crossing all alone the "couloir of death and was wearing an appropriate equipment for climbing.

Indeed, the gendarmes of the Chamonix PGHM said that "The Hungarian mountaineer was alone and properly equipped. "It's a recurring type of accident in this sector" they added.
