La Chamoniarde, the local mountain security association will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2018.
La Chamoniarde was created in 1948, on the initiative of the community of Chamonix and the Société chamoniarde de secours en montagne (SCSM) whose mission was the relief effort in the Chamonix Mont-Blanc valley.
According to Le Dauphine, Thursday evening 23rd November 2017, the local mountain security association met in general assembly in the presence of the Treasurer Olivier Gayan, of President Jean-Christophe Bèche and the Director of La Chamoniarde, Océane Vibert. At this meeting, Oceane Vibert admitted that "yet people do not know what our role is".
Indeed, since its creation, the local mountain security association has kept its energy. The structure continues to multiply its actions.

It distributes information on mountain conditions to practitioners and professionals. Check here the website of La Chamoniarde.
Provides documentation to the Office de Haute Montagne (OHM).
Raise awareness to the young public to the mountain environment and its dangers with the explanatory panels of the “Pôle montagne risk” or field trips: about 3,500 children, often foreigners, have been received in the last 12 months.
Publishes information and warning brochures.
Teach you the basic techniques for the search of avalanche victims.
Gather mountain rescue professionals both local and international: Haut-Savoyards, Valaisans and Valdostans.
Organizes real-life exercises and manages the radio network, among many others. Through its sessions, over 400 people have been trained in the field in the past year.
Two new DVA parks
La Chamoniarde has announced two new projects: two new DVA Parks at Les Houches and at the bottom of the valley. These new training sites for the search of avalanche victims should complete the five existing DVA Parks: (Lognan, Balme, La Flégère...).
