Chamonix/Vallorcine: Col des Montets reopens - 24 Jan 2018

Last update on Wednesday 24th January 2018: We inform you of the reopening of the Col des Montets this morning Wednesday, Jan 24th 2018.

We inform you about the closure of the Col des Montets today Wednesday 17th January at 9:30am, due to the high risk of avalanche.

Avalanche defense activities will be realized in the morning.

In the meantime, access is possible via the railway (and road) tunnel, which is open to traffic. Passage through the tunnel is regulated by an automated barrier ensuring 100m separation between vehicles. Check the safety rules of the the Tunnel des Montets.

Update Thursday 18 January 2018: The Gaillands road is reopened.

The Avalanche risk level is 4/5 in the Mont-Blanc massif

Météo France calls for vigilance in the mountains: the avalanche risk level is 4/5.

We advise you to take great care with all mountain activities. Do not go off-piste without obtaining advice from the mountain professionals or competent services and, as always, carry the essential equipment:

  • shovel;
  • probe;
  • avalanche victim detector, etc.
