We informed you yesterday of the closure of the 2nd cable-car Plan de l’Aiguille – Aiguille du Midi because of an anomaly discovered on the haulage cable.
The work necessary to allow the reopening of this lift will take several days meaning the closure of the above cable-car until 27th May included.
During this closure, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc teams have been mobilized to open the following lifts :
- Chamonix – Planpraz gondola (1st section of the Brévent lift system) in order to offer a magnificent viewpoint of the Mont-Blanc range and summit.
Open: from 9am to 4:30pm (with the last ascent at 4:00pm)
Takeaway snacks available on site.
- The Montenvers railway is open daily. Restaurant services available on site.
- Attractions: "Crystal gallery" and "Glaciorium" Glaciologists will be on site Saturday 19th, Sunday 20th & Monday 21st May 2018 to explain glacial phenomena.
The first cable-car, Chamonix - Plan de l’Aiguille will remain open until Monday 21st May included for pedestrians and mountaineers so as not to penalize these mountain activities
The whole of the Aiguille du Midi system will then be closed from 22nd to 27th May 2018 included.

According to a press release of Wednesday 16th May 2018 issued by Mont-Blanc Natural Resort:
Following the daily inspection of the cables on the Aiguille du Midi cable cars, an anomaly was found on the 2nd section between Plan de l'Aiguille and the Aiguille du Midi. The service was therefore suspended today and further investigation is in progress.
Consequently, the 2nd section will remain closed until further notice. Further information will be available as soon as possible.
The 1st cable car from Chamonix to Plan de l'Aiguille remains open as usual. Updated information will be available on the website: www.montblancnaturalresort.com
