Sunday 9 September 2018, a huge serac fell in the the Mont-Blanc massif, in the Glacier de Charpoua, facing south-east of the Aiguille Verte.
According to Le Dauphine, this impressive mass of ice formed a flow that swept down the slope until it reached the Mer de Glace.
The phenomenon was filmed by Benjamin Lehmann, a researcher from the University of Lausanne.
The fall is most probably caused by high temperatures (0° isotherm has exceeded 4500 meters).
This drop of serac could be linked to global warming.
