Chamonix: Partial Reopening of Swimming Pools

The health crisis, the newly discovered damages and the strict health protocol led to the exceptional closure of the Chamonix outdoor pool in the summer of 2020.

The indoor pools will be available from 4 July 2020.

The health crises caused by the coronavirus COVID-19 has greatly delayed the completion of work that is usually undertaken in the spring, to prepare for the reopening of pools.

Moreover, new damage was discovered, in particular the tiled surface surrounding the large outdoor pool. This requires additional and costly work, which could not be completed in time.

The Communauté de communes Vallée de Chamonix-Mont Blanc announces that they would take legal action against the companies responsible for the development of the pools. "This damage is recurrent and testifies to poor workmanship which justified the community taking legal action against the companies responsible for the development of the pools several years ago, so as to ensure compensation and repairs for the damage suffered."

In addition, the health protocol applicable to nautical equipment drastically reduces the instantaneous capacity of the swimming pool and induces very restrictive measures regarding the management of flows/orientations, showers.

In this context, the elected representatives of the Communauté de communes Vallée de Chamonix-Mont Blanc have recently announced that the Richard Bozon outdoor pool will remain closed throughout the summer of 2020. The indoor pools and the lawn will be accessible from 4 July 2020.

Elected officials and departments will take advantage of this period to continue the studies intended to prepare a structuring reconfiguration of the sports area, as well as of all the sports and recreational facilities and spaces in the sector.
