As France is experiencing a level of new coronavirus COVID-19 infections not seen since the height of the pandemic in early-April, the Chamonix municipality is preparing to extend the mandatory mask-wearing in the pedestrian and busiest areas of Chamonix for another month.
To limit the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, the mayor of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Éric Fournier, signed a decree which imposes the wearing of face masks in the pedestrian and busiest areas of Chamonix.
The decree was signed on 3 August 2020, and it imposed the mandatory wearing of masks until 31 August 2020.
According to Radio Mont-Blanc, the municipal decree signed on 3 August will be extended for another month, requiring the wearing of a protective mask in the town centre of Chamonix, and "any traffic zone pedestrian area where the principles of physical distancing cannot be applied".
The areas and street in which wearing a face mask is mandatory are the pedestrian areas, the square of Montenvers, the place du Mont-Blanc on market days (every Saturday), the rue des Moulins, the rue du Docteur Paccard, the rue Joseph Vallot, the quays d'Arve, the avenue Michel Croz, avenue de l'Aiguille du Midi, the parvis de Aiguille du Midi, avenue Ravanel le Rouge, as well as any public space welcoming flea markets and garage sales.
The decree should be extended "throughout September", according to mayor Eric Fournier, but the exact date hasn't been specified yet.
