Skier in serious condition after 200 meter fall on the Grands Montets

Skier in serious condition after 200 meter fall on the Grands Montets 27 Dec 2023

During the afternoon of Wednesday 27 December 2023, in the Lavancher sector of the Grands Montets domain, a man in his 20s was skiing off-piste in the Combe de la Pendant. The young man lost control of his skis and fell 200 metres.

Initially, he was taken care of by the domain monitors employed by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, who  responded urgently and provided first aid. Quickly they realised his condition was serious. They called the Security Civil who despatched two doctors, as part of a rescue team, in their helicopter. The Eurocopter-Kawasaki EC-145 (BK-117C-2) took off from their base in the Bois du Bouchet, which the Securite Civile share with the Chamonix PGHM. Within 5 minutes, the doctors were attending the patient.

The patient was flown directly to the hospital in Annecy.
