The 7th edition of the Arc’teryx Alpine Academy
The Arc'teryx Alpine Academy 2018 is to take place from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th July in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. This popular alpine educational unites 400 participants, alpine enthusiasts, mountain guides and professional athletes.
The event aims to create a space where beginners and experts alike can gain alpine knowledge through top-notch clinics, experience sharing and respect for the alpine environment.
This year will be present alpinists such as Ines Papert, Nina Caprez, Luka Lindic, Thibaud Duchosal, Stian Hagen, Lisi Steurer and many others.
The Academy offers more than 30 elite clinics/workshops on:
Thursday 5th:
Opening ceremony at 6:30pm.
Friday 6th:
- acclimatization, mountaineering education level 1,2,3;
- ice climbing basic skills, glacier tour of Vallée Blanche, rock climbing "lead your climb", milti pitch rock climbing;
- Gore-Tex Trad climbing, trekking with overnight in tent presented by Lyo Food;
- intro to alpine and mountain landscapes phorography presented by Peak Design, trail running level 1, 2, 3, trail maintenance;
- Bolts & Belays, Permafrost & Glaciologie - impact of global warming;
Saturday 7th:
- Mountaineering education level 1, 2, 3, ice climbing basic skills;
- ice climbing basic skills for women, Gore-Tex dry tooling and mixed climbing, glacier tour of Vallée Blanche, women's glacier tour;
- rock climbing "lead your climb", rock climbing "performance", bouldering, multi pitch rock climbing;
- Gore-Tex Trad climbing, improvised rescue for climbing, aid climbing, big wall climbing;
- portaledge night presented by Lyo Food, climb & overnight bivy course, ski mountaineering, Split boarding;
- first aid and basic rescue, high altitude medicine, navigation, trail running level 1, 2, 3;
- intro to alpine phorography presented by Peak Design, adventure phorography and shooting in the vertical environment presented by Peak Design;
Sunday 8th:
- Mountaineering education level 1, 2, 3, ice climbing basic skills;
- ice climbing for women, Gore-Tex dry tooling and mixed climbing, glacier tour of Vallée Blanche, women's glacier tour;
- rock climbing "lead your climb", rock climbing "performance", bouldering, multi pitch rock climbing;
- Gore-Tex Trad climbing, aid climbing, big wall climbing, improved rescue for climbing;
- first aid and basic rescue, high altitude medicine, navigation, trail running level 1, 2, 3;
- Movie Night at 9pm.
New 2018
The alpine village location will transform Place Balmat into a real centre to share the alpine experience, open to all.
Inspirational, educational and entertaining – all master classes are free and aiming at delivering top-notch expertise that you can apply in the outdoors!
Lots of free events will be taking place during Arc'teryx Alpine Academy in and around Chamonix: outdoor sessions, movie nights, concerts, demonstrations and many other activities related to mountaineering.

What to Bring
As the event weekend is located in high altitude areas around Mont-Blanc, we recommend an early arrival to Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (at least one day prior to start) to make sure your body gets used to the altitude.
- Mountaineering boots (crampon compatible)
- Functional and warm clothes
- Backpack
- Waterproof protection (jacket and pants)
- Gaiters (optional)
- Gloves, hat
- Sun protection (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, lip protection)
- Thermal flask, bottle
- First-Aid-kit
- Hiking poles (optional)
- Food: Please bring enough food and water (at least 2 litres) for a full day in the mountains.
