CHAMONIX: A trekker dies of heart attack

Last Sunday (28 June 2009) was warm and sunny and the mountains were packed. The trails were full of hikers as well as runners taking part in the Marathon du Mont Blanc. While hiking near Planpraz (2,000m) with a mountain leader, a 69-year-old man suffered a heart attack and lost consciousness. Rescue workers were on the scene shortly after but he never regained consciousness. Elsewhere near Chamonix, the PGHM rescued an alpinist on the Allemands route (3,700m)on the Triangle face of the Tacul. Later the same morning, the PGHM received a call from a group of climbers who were hit by a small avalanche on Mont Maudit. There were no serious injuries or fatalities. Le Dauphiné
