Annecy 2018, The puzzle of Olympic venues

The organizing committee of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games had to reorganize the sites that will welcome the games in two places: Annecy Aravis and Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley But the organizing committee is struggling to find solutions for the second place. For Eric Fournier, president of the community of municipalities of the valley of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, two things are clear: 1. the big ice rink can't be built in the valley (the Organizing Committee continues to prefer Domancy-Passy-Le Fayet, despite the strong protest of the population). 2. out of the question to create an Olympic Village from scratch in the valley of Chamonix. But if we look at other options, there are no big and recent buildings that can accommodate the Olympic Delegations. Slalom and Moguls Ski Stadium at the Grépon ? In terms of purely sport infrastructures, according to Eric Fournier, "technically and environmentally speaking, we think that these sport infrastructures can be done and they bring a value to the Chamonix Valley". Among the big projects: a slalom and freestyle skiing (moguls) stadium on Grepon Parking, at the entrance of Chamonix Town, where the road could pass underneath. This is an idea that would allow Les Houches ski area to welcome the other Alpine Ski events. Knowing that Megeve ski resort also remains an hypothesis (women's ski), not too far from Chamonix. But as Eric Fournier referred, these possibilities must still be re-analyzed having in consideration: who pays and how? Studies will continue until August 2010, if we want to keep the opportunity to compete with Munich and PyeongChang. Le Dauphiné
