Two climbers killed after falling 800 metres

This Friday afternoon, the Chamonix PGHM were called by a climbing team ascending the North Face of the Aiguille du Midi, who had just seen another team fall from the Frendo Spur. Immediately, the Civil emergency helicopter at the DZ in "Les Bois" took off, carrying two police rescuers. After flying over the Frendo Spur, the crew spotted two bodies in a snow couloir, to the left of the Frendo route. One rescuer was lowered down to the two bodies & confirmed them both dead. At least one of the two is reported to be British. However, due to the instability of the melting snow, the rescuers had to leave the bodies where they were. "There were too many snow slides", explained a police rescuer. "We will retrieve the bodies tomorrow morning (Saturday), when the couloir is frozen and stabilised". Le Dauphiné
