Bivouacing prohibited at Tête Rousse

The Mayor of St. Gervais, Jean Marc Peillex, has initiated a new by-law to prohibit camping or bivouacing at the "Tête Rousse", on the normal access route to Mont Blanc. The mayor justified his decision by saying that this season's extreme drought has resulted in the "Couloir du Goûter" being in a dangerous condition. Stonefall has reached the Tete Rousse glacier, and with warm weather conditions preventing re-freezing at night, rock falls can now reach the bivouac area - hence the ban on wild camping. The ban will eventually be lifted with a new by-law. The town of St Gervais has also issued a statement saying it strongly advises against using this route to reach Mont Blanc.
