Aurelian was forced to retire Sunday, October 23 after having to return to Mindelo, the island of Cap Vert, where he had repaired his rudder two days earlier. Barely 100 miles after the race resumed towards Bahia, Aurelian noticed another crack in the rudder along with significant damage to the boat's stern, forcing him to turn around. "I am extremely disappointed and frustrated because the Atlantic was a part of me for two years, day and night, and to be forced to stop for technical problems is not usual for me" said Aurelien, just after making the decision to give up.
