There was some bad news for people attempting to pass through the Mont Blanc Tunnel yesterday morning - it was closed for two hours. No traffic was allowed in either direction between 8:00 & 10:00hrs, as part of the Emergency Response Plan implementation to set-off avalanches. In all, five rounds were fired by helicopter, which resulted in a "nice" avalanche being triggered, which reached the bottom of the couloir. On the French side, thanks to low traffic, delays weren't too bad, although apparently the queue still reached down to the "Vigie" roundabout at the entrance to Chamonix.
