Last Tuesday at noon, visitors to the Montenvers Train / Mer de Glace, one of the most famous visits in France, were surprised not to see the train arriving on time in the station. It was for a reason: the train had jumped the points and fallen off the track.
Fortunately for the Compagnie du Mont Blanc, the accident happened to the second, "middle" train. The first train was on the upper section, while the third train was on the lower section. Thus, passengers were still able to make the trip, but had to walk past the derailement to change train! At least it made for a memorable visit! At 14:00hrs, the middle train was back on the rails and normal service was resumed.
Thankfully, no leaves on the line...
