Next year, 2013, Annecy could well be in the limelight as the penultimate stage of the Tour de France.
In 2009 it was included as part of a time-trial around Lac d'Annecy. In 2013, it would most likely be a timed ascent to Semnoz the day before the race arrives in Annecy.
In 1998, in the middle of the Festina doping affair, the section through Annecy to Aix-les-Bains was cancelled. This 16km section, potentially including the steep "Les Puisots" climb (10%), could serve as a last race before the Tour heads on to Paris.
From the top of the climb, you should be able to see the Champs-Élysées!
Note, however, that the final decision is not due until late October.
