2018 Olympics: Review of the first week for the athletes of Chamonix

Freeskiing  - Slopestyle Women: Olympic gold for the Swiss freestyle skier Sarah Hoefflin (27) who lives in Chamonix.

For her first Olympic Games, the skier made a madness final run to win the gold medal at PyeongChang, ahead of her compatriot Mathilde Gremaud.

Ski slopestyle Women results

1. Sarah Hoefflin (SUI) 91,20 pts;
2. Mathilde Gremaud (SUI) 88,00 pts;
3. Isabel Atkin (GBR) 84,60 pts;
4. Maggie Voisin (USA) 81,20 pts;
5. Johanne Killi (NOR) 76,80 pts.

According to the Chamonix Town Hall, after a week of competition for the athletes of Chamonix selected to 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, the results are mixed.

Blaise Giezendanner and Merlin Surget: 1st participation and success

Alpine Skiing: Blaise Giezendanner ranked 4th in super-G.

Snowboard Cross: The young Merlin Surget ranked 17th.

François Braud and Vincent Descombes-Sevoie: difficult entry in the competition

Nordic Combined: François Braud ranked 15th in the small hill. He will compete again next week.

Ski Jumping: The jumper Vincent Descombes-Sevoie ranked 35th in the small hill ski jump. He will continue the competition with the big hill event.

See you at the Chamonix Sports Club to follow the last events where the athletes of Chamonix are engaged:

  • Tuesday 20 Feb at 11am for the ski jumping (big hill event) then cross-country skiing at 1:45pm;
  • Thursday 22 Feb at 11:20am for the combined team (cross-country skiing).
