Summer 2013: Gendarmes patrol two main routes to summit of Mont Blanc

During the climbing season (June to September), police information and, when necessary, prevention, will be in place on Mont Blanc.

For 55 days, police will be deployed on the two main access routes: The Gouter route and the Three Peaks route from the Cosmique Hut.

They will be present mainly in two places: the Col du Midi and Tete Rousse. Their mission is to educate climbers with advice for a successful summit attempt. They will review equipment, fitness, weather and other factors and advise climbers on environmental issues and the preservation of the Mont-Blanc as a natural heritage location.

The only place where is it permited to bivouac is at the Tête Rousse, where there is a designated camping area.

On the Gouter route, the town of Saint-Gervais will have four on duty, "ambassadors", two at the terminus of the Tramway du Mont-Blanc and two the Tete Rousse.

Finally, information and the existing signage will be strengthened. For example, a reminder that it is forbidden to walk along the track of the Tramway du Mont Blanc.
