Monday evening 2nd October 2017, around 250 people attended the baptism of the maison des sports of Chamonix in a moving ceremony in the presence of the family of Karine, her friends and coaches, Michel Vion, President of the French Ski Federation, elected representatives of the CCC (Communauté de Communes de la Vallée de Chamonix Mont-Blanc) and the Chamonix sports community.
Tribute to Karine Ruby
According to Le Dauphine, the emotion was in the air on Monday evening for the baptism of the Maison des Sports named Karine Ruby, emblematic figure of Chamonix, the first Olympic snowboard champion in Nagano, in February 1998, who disappeared in an accident in the Mont-Blanc Massif on the 29th May 2009.
A film by Isabelle Blanc has retraced the prestigious career of Karine Ruby. After the presentation of the film, a lettering and a commemorative plaque placed on the Maison des Sports were unveiled.
On this occasion and for the first time were presented to the public the 19 crystal globes and Olympic medals won by Karine during her career.
This evening was presented by Ludovic Collet and Eric Fournier, the mayor of Chamonix and was also dedicated to the Olympics:
- screening of a film and photographs of the 1st Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix, in 1924, organized on the occasion of the Paris 1924 Olympic Games;
- presentation of all the members of Team Chamonix, many of whom have good things to participate in the next Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, Korea.
