Chamonix: The snow is back 1st March!

Good news: fresh snow in the valley of Chamonix Mont-Blanc, snowfall this Wednesday morning, 1st March 2017.

According to Radio Mont Blanc, there are at least ten centimeters of fresh snow in the Chamonix centre town. Approximately 1 meter of snow on the slopes of the Mont-Blanc massif, at about 2500 meters.

The avalanche risk emitted by Météo-France Lyon has gone up to 4/5 (High). Triggering is likely, even with single skiers, on many steep slopes. Frequent medium or large sized avalanches are likely.

The avalanche danger is high outside of the controlled ski areas right now, with all the new snow and wind-loading. Off-piste skiing not supervised by mountain professionals is strongly discouraged, until conditions stabilize.
