Chamonix Valley against Japanese Knotweed

The CCC (Communauté de Communes de la Vallée de Chamonix Mont-Blanc) launches a major management plan to fight against the Japanese Knotweed.
Japanese Knotweed is a highly invasive plant that has been spread around our beautiful valley. A new plant can grow from just 0.7g of root. It is most important not to disperse the weed.

The Japanese Knotweed eliminates competition with its dense foliage, it creates shadows preventing the development of the surrounding vegetation. Also it spreads a toxic substance that poisons other plants.
The Chamonix Valley municipality launched a major project to fight against this invasive plant: the Japanese Knotweed . Everyone is invited to help them in this process by fighting against these plants on the personal properties, gardens and fields.

How to help out:
- Do not plant it
- Do not use it for compost
- Do not spread it
- Do not move the contaminated soil

If the plant is already in the personal garden
- Mow it manually to 10 cm from the ground every 3 weeks
- Place the resulted garbage in thick plastic bags
- Bring these bags for disposal at Bocher and put them in the specialized bins

Public information meetings on this subject are programmed for June or early July.
- First meeting Servoz: 12 June, 8pm - salle des fêtes
- Second meeting Vallorcine: 29 June, 8pm - La Ruche
The dates for Chamonix and Les Houches will be communicated as soon as possible.
