Chamonix welcomes French Prime Minister

On Friday, 25th September 2015, official visit of the Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, in Chamonix Mont-Blanc.

The illustration of the Mer de Glace decline has been clearly visible over the last years and became a subject of discussion among many tourists from all around the world.

Throughout many years, Chamonix-Mont-Blanc undertook the responsibility to protect the living environment and its exceptional natural resources.

Within this context, the Prime Minister, accompanied by a delegation of six MPs, including Ségolène Royal, the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy and other members of the government, will come tomorrow in Montenvers to convince themselves about the sharp decline of the glacier and mobilize people opinion regarding climate issues.

The Prime Minister is expected to make statements about the seasonal work, accessibility of the digital heritage and also about health care provision in the mountains.

This is for the first time when the National Mountain Council will be held in Chamonix.

Manuel Valls announced a new Mountain Law for 2016.
On Friday 25, early in the morning, Manuel Valls and other MPs arrived at Montenvers train station. After their official visit to Montenvers - Mer Glace, the Prime Minister held an official conference where he announced that the old Mountain Act adopted in 1985 will be completely reviewed. A new law is to be implemented in 2016.
