Closure of Montenvers Mer de Glace site: Fall 2016

The Hôtel-Restaurant-Montenvers company, the Chamonix town hall and the Compagnie du Mont Blanc have launched the first phase of a larger development program for the Montenvers – Mer de Glace site, which will begin in May 2016 with a renovation project of the Panoramique restaurant. This restoration works will be continued on the train station, the Grand Hôtel du Montenvers and on the wet & dry networks for a total of 6.5 million euros investment.

The Montenvers-Mer de Glace site will be closed to public this autumn, from the morning of 5th September until the evening of 16th December for completion of the work.

 

Aware of the inconvenience, tourist activities will be offered daily in Chamonix Valley, to the alternate opening of other sites, as indicated in the planning below:

  • Aiguille du Midi;
  • Brévent;
  • Flégère;
  • Grands Montets.

From December 17th 2016, the site will partially reopen with access to the gondola, the Ice Cave and the new Panoramique Restaurant.

This first renovation phase will be finished in July 2017. The reopening of the renovated train station, the new Grand Hôtel du Montenvers will offer a new experience to the clients by combining the history of the place with the majestic panorama and the modern facilities.
