Freeride World Tour 2017: RECCO Equipment System

RECCO®System - Official Rescue Equipment Partner for Swatch FWT 2017

For ten years, the Freeride World Tour has aimed for the highest level of safety standards in the mountain environment. Also, the FWT has encouraged and developed responsible safety practices for athletes, competitors, spectators, and the entire Freeride Community.

For 2017, the Freeride World Tour continues to stand by its commitments, by partnering with RECCO® Rescue System, that brings an extra layer in the safety system.

The event organizer, FWT Management SA has renewed the partnership with the International Snow Training Academy (ISTA) and the ABS Avalanche Airbag and they have signed a new partnership with RECCO® AB "search and rescue devices".

According to Nicolas Hale-Woods, the chief executive officer of Freeride World Tour “Safety is the number one priority for Freeride World Tour. Thanks to our partnership with RECCO, all riders competing worldwide at the World Tour level, Qualifier level and Junior level, will be equipped with a RECCO reflector.

Johan Sauer, the vice president of RECCO® AB reconfirms that “The RECCO Advanced Rescue Technology has been a global standard in professional avalanche rescue for many years. With this partnership we are proud to say that the Freeride World Tour recognizes the advantages of RECCO® AB”.

In addition to the RECCO equipment and the avalanche airbags, the Freeride World Tour requires that all competitors, in every competition, carry an avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, and know how to use them. Physical protection is provided by mandatory helmets and certified back protection. All equipment is verified prior to each event and is mandatory to compete.

RECCO® AB and ABS Avalanche Airbag partnerships will extend their partnership with FWT until 2019. The partnership between ISTA and Freeride World Tour will continue until the 2020 season, providing mandatory equipment and snow safety education for the athletes.

Nicolas Hale-Woods, CEO Freeride World Tour, explains how the RECCO system brings an extra layer of safety and why riders always should use both avalanche transceivers and RECCO reflectors.
