Sunday, 19 Oct 2014, the so-called "death couloir", makes two more victims. One of the two alpinists was found dead by the PGHM at the base of the Gouter couloir, while the other is hospitalized with severe traumatic brain injury.
Sunday, 19 Oct 2014, tragedy on the Gouter Route to Mont-Blanc: a 48-year-old French climber lost his balance and fell 600 metres to his dead. The PGHM Chamonix was alerted at 7.40am about a tragedy on the route to Mont-Blanc. The deceased, a French climber, had summited Mont-Blanc and was descending to the town of Chamonix without companion. He was crossing the so-called Death Gully (Couloir de Gouter) at an altitude of 3400 m when he lost his balance, slipped and fell and estimated 600m.
The other accident occurred on Saturday, 18 Oct 2014 on the same route to the summit of Mont Blanc. The victim was ascending the Gouter Couloir, when he lost his balance and fell approx. 250 metres down the couloir. A helicopter was dispatched at the scene of the accident and arrived within minutes. In the fall, the climber had suffered brain injuries and was heliported to the hospital of Sallanches.
