Aiguille du Midi Fatal Fall

Mon, 6 May 2014, at around 9.45am, a Chamoniard paraglider fell from the North face of Aiguille du Midi. Due to take-off problems, he impacted on the mountain side and lost his life.

The paragliding accident occured on May 5th

While taking-off on the North face of Aiguille du Midi, ​a 38 year old Chamonix-local fell more than 1000m, to his death. The victim, Guillaume Magnin, aka Bilou, was an experienced High Mountain Guide, ski instructor and National Alpine Monitor.

From the preliminary investigations it seems that the pilot had difficulties during take-off. After a fatal fall of the entire North Face the body was found at the Plan de l'Aiguille by a nearby skier.

A further investigation has been opened to properly identify the cause of his death.
