On Saturday 25 February 2017, the Minister of Environment, Ségolène Royal will be in Chamonix Mont-Blanc for a visit on the theme of the fight against air pollution.
According to Le Messager, the visit was officially confirmed by a press release of Chamonix on Thursday 23 February.
According to Le Dauphine, the air quality issue regarding the Arve Valley impacted by periodic air pollution peaks must be discussed. In addition, the Minister during the visit will present her proposals for "responsible territory".
The program of Ségolène Royal's visit in Chamonix includes:
- visit of the French platform of Mont-Blanc Tunnel to measure the road traffic;
- an exchange on the phenomenon of air pollution and the candidature of Mont-Blanc to Unesco at the Aiguille du Midi;
- a visit of the sports center and multimedia library of Chamonix to discuss the measures for the thermal renovation of the buildings.
The mayor of Chamonix, Éric Fournier welcomed the visit of Ségolène Royal "I am delighted with this visit because it will undoubtedly enable Madame Royal to bring some of the answers to our recurrent solicitations over the past four years and to testify to her support for this mountain area to benefit from the specific measures that it deserves. The strong local involvement which has enabled the implementation of significant actions must be accompanied by the obtaining of the State of the following concrete measures".
According to Le Dauphine, the member for Mont-Blanc, Sophie Dion took advantage of the announcement of this visit to request the doubling of the "Air Bois" and "Air industrie" funds to the Minister, who will formalize the implementation of the "Territoire Respirable "obtained on 3rd November for the area. Also, the MEP wants to extend the application of the convention to the 41 municipalities of the Atmospheric Protection Plan (PPA).
