Thursday, 15 May 2014, on the Grand Plateau, north face of Mont Blanc, a ski-tourer fell into a crevasse.
The PGHM was called as soon as the incident occurred. They responded quickly and recovered the man, from 10 meters inside the crevasse.
The skier was fortunate to only sustain minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. The only 'victim' was a ski, that remains lost in the crevasse.
As summer approaches and the temperatures rise, ice bridges over crevasses weaken and then collapse. The risk of falling into a crevasse increases. Stay safe in the mountains!
