Two Spanish climbers lose their lives at the Gervasutti corridor

Deux alpinistes espagnols perdent la vie au couloir Gervasutti Mont Blanc du Tacul

Toe Spanish mountaineers fell into the Gervasutti corridor on Mont Blanc du Tacul on Wednesday August 21st 2024. A third man was unhurt. It was 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday August 21 when the alert fell to the switchboard of the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM).

Two Spanish mountaineers, finding themselves at the summit of Mont Blanc du Tacul (4,248 meters) on the rocky spur, fell into the Gervasutti corridor. The fall was dizzying, leaving them no chance. On a 700 meter high slope at 45 degrees on the east face, the bodies rolled down three quarters of the face. With the assistance of the Civil Security helicopter, the PGHM rescuers had to carry out a very technical intervention for a good part of the afternoon to recover the remains of 26 and 27 years old.

The causes of the fall are not yet known.

The third rope companion did not fall. He was recovered unharmed at the summit of Mont Blanc du Tacul. The testimony will also clarify the route by which the men climbed in Mont Blanc du Tacul. At the time of this article, it is not certain that they climbed the Gervasutti corridor.
