Sunday 14 July 2013, at the Gaillands Climbing Wall, a Romanian climber, 30, was making a solo ascent. At about 3:30pm the man fell 40 meters from the top of the route. Paramedics were on the scene in minutes, but the fall had been fatal.
On the same day, a Polish climber, 45 was found dead at the foot of Gervasutti Couloir on the north face of Mont Blanc du Tacul. He had been climbing solo on this long mixed route.
The third accident took place on Monday on the south face of the Courtes in the Mont-Blanc Massif. Three Danish climbers were roped up for their traverse of the Bassin de Taléfre to the Refuge du Couvercle before accessing Les Courtes. During the traverse of Les Courtes, they were not roped up. One climber, 30, took a fatal fall; the other two climbers are safe.
