The victim, an Italian, 29, died after had fallen about 100m down. His climbing partner immediately alerted the PGHM who arrived at the accident scene and recovered his body back to Chamonix.

In the afternoon, a French climber was involved in another Gouter Couloir tragedy. This time, the victim was a woman, 56, who suffered a fatal 500 metres fall while descending together with her husband from the summit of Mont-Blanc. Some sources say the couple was unroped. An investigation has been already initiated.

According to PGHM, the mountain practice conditions were favourable this weekend. However, the emergency services, strongly recommend to all climbers to be careful for the upcoming days, as the good snow conditions can easily transform and became dangerous.
