Since the beginning of February 2013, a virus has been running through the canine population of Chamonix. The virus only affects dogs, is transmitted through faeces leading to serious gastroenteritis. At least 10 cases have been reported, and so far, 3 of those have been fatal.
The mayor advises all owners to be vigilant, and if a dog has a tendency for coprophagia, they should be walked on a short lead. Any dog with vomiting or diarrhoea should be taken to a veterinarian.
