Chamonix: great investment in the new Flégère gondola

Each year, the Chamonix Valley administration and the whole Haute-Savoie department, in general, make great investments and carry out extensive work, with the purpose of revitalizing the valley & attracting more clients.

in 2019, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc staff working hard to replace the Flégère cable cars with new innovative gondolas.

The numbers? 20.5 million euros are spent to have the Flégère gondola ready for the 2019/20 Chamonix ski season.

According to Le Dauphine, the project to replace the old Flégère cable cars with modern gondolas was elaborated in 2013.

On the 14th of April 2019, the historic Flégère cable cars operated for the last time. The ski season was officially closed and extensive works began.

The new gondola will offer 10 seats and a flow of around 2,000 people per hour at a speed of 6 meters per second. Also, the trip will be seated, so the new Flégère gondola was designed to both satisfy the high demand and provide users with more comfort.

On the 12th of August, the pylons of the old cable car were lifted. It remains to lay the cable, which should be done at the end of August.

"We are in the timing of the program", announced Jean-Pierre Veillard, who manages the Brévent-Flégère area at the CMB.

What about the old cable cars? They will be renovated and reused on the Brévent cable car.
