The PGHM of Chamonix Very Strict To Hikers

As of 18 March 2020, the PGHM of Chamonix started patrolling the Mont-Blanc massif, to make sure that everyone complies with the new regulations.

On 21 March 2020, the gendarmes did not have any rescue missions to conduct, and were, therefore, able to concentrate on verifying if the containment measures were followed.

On Saturday, 21st March 2020, three tickets were issued to people who did not respect the containment measures & went out on hikes.

"The confinement is fairly well respected, but since Friday (editor's note: 20 March 2020), we systematically verbalize these cases that mock the world", reports Colonel Stéphane Bozon, for Le Dauphine.

"We are merciless now for people who don't follow the rules".

On 17 March 2020, the administration of the Hospitals of Pays du Mont-Blanc has decided to close the Chamonix Emergency Services. "In a few days, there will be no more medical aid, since the doctors are all requisitioned at the hospital (editor's note: Sallanches hospital) for the health crisis. If there is an accident in the mountains, the chances of the person surviving will be reduced", concludes Colonel Stéphane Bozon.

As a reminder, all ski areas, ski facilities, touristic sites, restaurants, bars & more are closed in the Chamonix Valley, in an attempt to limit the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19. Moreover, all mountain activities are prohibited.
