Chamonix: The PGHM Delivers New Crampon to Mountaineer

The gendarmes of the PGHM of Chamonix carry out a wide variety of mountain rescue missions. From saving mountaineers from certain death to deliver a new crampon to a mountaineer who lost one of his.

On 27 July, at around 1 pm, a roped party of two alpinists found themselves stuck on the north face of the Grandes Jorasses, on the Walker Spur. The Walker Spur is a classic route to reach the Pointe Walker, the highest summit of the Grandes Jorasses massif (4,208 m; 13,806 ft).

The two alpinists were unable to make any further progress, as when one of them lost a crampon.

Luckily, the PGHM of Chamonix came to their rescue. The gendarmes delivered a new crampon to the mountaineer, via the Choucas 74 helicopter.
