The return of good weather at Chamonix after weeks of frustration also sounds like a resumption of the activity for the gendarmes of the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM). This Sunday 18 July, they carried out six rescue operations using the Dragon 74 civil security helicopter with an emergency doctor from the Mont-Blanc Hospital on board.
At 10 a.m., a 20-year-old hiker was evacuated to Chamonix Hospital after injuring his ankle at Lake Remuaz, above the Col des Montets.
At 1 p.m., a family of walkers technically stuckedon the steep slopes of the Combe Noire at Armancette (Contamines-Montjoie) was also evacuated.
Shortly afterwards, a 50-year-old man fell into a crevasse in the Vallee Blanche. As his rope companions failed to trace him back, the PGHM was mobilized to successfully uproot him.
At 1:30 p.m., a woman was taken care of after injuring her hand following a slip on a snowfield at Col de la Glière.
At 2:40 p.m., two climbers stranded by their inadequate level on the northwest edge of the Shark were rescued. Finally, at 3 p.m., a 20-year-old climber injured his elbow following a 15-meter fall on the western ridge of the Grand Charmoz. He was dropped off at Chamonix Hospital.
Meanwhile, the helicopter of the Choucas 74 gendarmerie came as reinforcements in the Mont Blanc massif over the course of 14 hours to take care of a hiker who was suffering from discomfort at Lake Jovet in Contamines-Montjoie. His helth condition is not presently a concern.
