Village of Le Tour : man falls 200 meters to his death

On Friday 25 March 2022, a ski descent end up tragically on the village of Le Tour (1450m) in the Chamonix Valley for two rope companions.

According to Le Dauphiné, the two climbers had successfully climbed the Col du Passon (3028m), in the Argentière basin, a great classic of mountaineering and mountain skiing.

But on Friday, one of the two man, fell 200 meters while descending on the village of Le Tour. Unfortunately, in the slide, the victim hit the terrain.

The alert was given at 4:25 p.m. to the PGHM rescue gendarmes. When the rescue team arrived at the scene, they could only declare the man dead. They thus lowered the body of the victim and its companion to the base of the helicopters.

An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of this tragic accident.

According to the first elements of the investigation carried out by the PGHM of Chamonix,  the two mountain practitioners of French nationality were not supervised by a high mountain guide.

Advice for all skiers: due to the remote and glacial nature of this ski-touring route, we recommend hiring a guide, and always be equipped with Transceiver, shovel and probe.

Be aware of avalanche potential, snowpack conditions, and crevasses!
