The storm came over the weekend, and left us with over 50 centimetres of light fluffy powder at mid mountain on Saturday, with about 20cms in town, too!
The skiing at the Grands montets on Saturday was excellent, with fresh snow flying everywhere, but foggy visibility until the afternoon. The top lift didn't open until Sunday, with a clearer sky up high, but unfortunately the wind shredded most of the fluff apart by the time anyone got to it, and lower down there was a refreeze crust on top of the deep fresh snow, which made it really hard to ski.
The sky finally cleared properly today, and we are back to the sunny spring that we had last week, though slightly cooler. The Grands Montets is still open daily, and Flegere every morning this week, but the other ski areas around Chamonix had their last day on Sunday. I woke up too late to make the most of Flegere this morning, so I went up to the Grands Montets, which turned out to be sunnier anyway. The higher level from the top of the Bochard and the Herse was still icy at noon, but the temperature was still rising, and around mid mountain was some really good corn snow, especially on the groomed pistes. The Pierre-a-ric was also excellent all the way down to the base station
There is a warmer storm cycle due to come in at the end of this week, with more fresh snow from mid mountain up.
